Tropical Minimalism: Design, Interiors, and the Art of Living with Less

Tropical Minimalism is an independent publication exploring architecture, interiors, art, craft and ways of living shaped by tropical climates.

We look beyond tropical design as an aesthetic to consider how spaces respond to heat, humidity, rain, light, landscape and the movement of air. Through considered projects, conversations and essays, the publication examines the principles, materials and regional knowledge that allow architecture to work with its climate rather than against it.

Across tropical and subtropical regions, architects, designers, artists and makers are creating work distinguished by restraint, material honesty and a close relationship with place. These ideas are not new. Many are grounded in building traditions developed over generations. Yet they are often presented separately, without a shared platform through which their wider relevance can be explored.

Tropical Minimalism was created to provide that platform: a dedicated space for the people, places and ideas shaping a more thoughtful approach to life in warm climates.

Our purpose

Our aim is to become a considered resource for tropical architecture and design bringing together exemplary projects, informed perspectives and practical knowledge from across the world.

The publication considers climate-responsive architecture alongside interiors, gardens, art, craft, hospitality and everyday rituals. Together, they reveal tropical minimalism not as a fixed visual style, but as an evolving philosophy shaped by climate, culture and place.

Through project features, interviews, essays and guides, we document work of lasting value, amplify the voices behind it and encourage a more environmentally conscious way of designing and living in the tropics.
